Suffolk
IP15 5NA
Aldeburgh is situated in Suffolk on the "Heritage" coast of East England.
The nearest major town is Ipswich.
AYC looks forward to welcoming visiting yachts on your cruise of the East Coast. The mouth of the Rivers Alde & Ore can be a bit challenging. The link below to the East Coast Pilot website gives a useful chart of the entrance, but it is worth bearing in mind that the shingle can move and therefore please be alert when crossing the bar, and even recent charts may be out of date.

Once in the river there is lots to enjoy with the wildlife, some quiet anchorages and wonderful walks. You sail past the world famous Havergate Island Nature Reserve, and the largest vegetated shingle spit in Europe The village of Orford is definitely worth a visit to explore the history and sample the pubs and Butley Oysterage. Aldeburgh town centre is about 10-15 minutes’ walk northwards from the club and offers a full range of shops and restaurants, a great cinema, as well at the famous fish and chips shops. Further upriver from AYC are Iken cliffs and on a rising tide some smaller boats can reach the Concert Hall and shops at Snape Maltings, but it makes a great trip in the dinghy too.
The club is usually open 9am-5pm, 7 days a week during the season, and a bit later on Wednesday evenings. Please sign the Visiting Yachtsmen book in the clubroom on arrival to become a temporary member for the duration of your stay. Please come and enjoy the Bar, which is always well-stocked with the local Adnams beers and wines and serves a mean G&T, not forgetting the food served from our Galley restaurant (see social section for opening times).
Visitors Moorings are provided by the Harbour Master (RF Upson & Co. 01728 453047). The three visitors mooring buoys are in a line off the Martello Tower on the eastern side, and are the first buoys you come to in the vicinity. You should not pick up any other buoy without the express permission of the Harbour Master. If you prefer to anchor the permitted area is down river from the visitors mooring, nearer the Martello Tower. Anchoring is not allowed elsewhere in the stretch of the river where moorings are laid because there are numerous ground chains with many laid across the tide. The Harbour Master is based in the workshop immediately North of the club car park.
Please email the Club Manager ( clubmanager@aldeburghyc.org.uk) if you would like further information.
We look forward to welcoming you to AYC.
