AYC's Boat Cat Boot Sale: Friday 18th April from 10am-12 noon

On Good Friday, alongside the AYC annual Clean Up, there will be a Car Boot Sale for unwanted/spare sailing items. If you have any boating equipment or any other gear that you want to sell/giveaway, please do bring it down to the car park and open up your boot.

We will direct interested parties to the car park. We are hoping that a generous proportion of successful sales will be donated to the AYC Charities: AYC Schools Sailing Trust, Woolverstone Project and the RNLI – to raise a few bob for some good causes close to our heart.  

So now is the time for a spring clear up of the garage, recycle unwanted items and trade in outgrown sailing kit.

LOCH LONG 6   "SCIROCCO"

PRICE £7,000

Scirocco was built in 1937 by J Colquhoun of Dunoon and is one of the original 6 boats launched and raced on 12th May 1937 to celebrate the Coronation of King George VI. She is constructed from Oregon Pine, carvel built on elm frames and is in good condition having been substantially rebuilt in 2010 by the Peter Wilson boatyard in Aldeburgh, including being epoxied inside and out. Rig; Fractional Bermudan sloop rig, spruce mast. Halyards in good condition. Sails in good condition. She has the distinction of being the only Loch Long which has been holed by a torpedo which occurred July 3rd 1957 when the Royal Navy were indulging in torpedo practice while the LL fleet were racing. One of the torpedoes zig zagged across the Loch and holed Scirocco which was towed back to shore in a sinking condition. The

RN Repaired her and provided a brass plaque to commemorate her exploits,

which is still fixed to the boat.
